Job Description A Health Information Management Clerk assists requesters with access to protected health information. Responds to requests for medical information by performing duties in accordance with established hospital and departmental policy and federal laws.

Schedule This Health Information Management Clerk position is a Full‑Time, On‑Site, Benefited opportunity. The health information management clerk will help maintain medical records across various hospital departments and will learn and navigate multiple different specialty systems. It may offer rotating shifts and weekends. Shift lengths are typically 7‑10 hours and the FLSA Status is Non‑Exempt. This position reports to the Director of Health Information Management (HIM).

Job Requirements

1‑2 years of general healthcare office experience preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required, prefer some college education.

Prefer RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Computer skills and knowledge of computer software required.

Required Skills

Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department.

Ability to problem‑solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.

Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

Essential Functions Responsible for helping all customers that come to the window in a timely and courteous manner. Preps charts for scanning according to the productivity standards. Scans medical records according to the daily productivity standards as appropriate. Performs quality control checks on previously scanned reports as deemed appropriate. Maintains HIPAA standards at all times. Receives calls to the department and routes them accordingly and checks department email daily. Enter Birth Records into the NV State EBRS/EDRS system. Contact parents regarding paternity forms and birth confirmations. Analyzes assigned records and assigns documentation deficiencies as identified. Communicate with providers regarding documentation deficiencies. Assist providers with questions or issues they may be encountering with completing documentation in the EMR. Ability to create, save and import files into the EMR. Must have strong computer skills - in email, Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, and the ability to learn and navigate within multiple different Medical Record applications on a daily basis. Performs other duties as assigned.

Functional Demands

Standing, sitting, walking, bending (45‑90 degree angles) are required.

May require stair climbing and lifting objects.

Reading and writing as appropriate to medical documentation for the review process.

Speech, hearing, and visual acuity are necessary in order to perform job functions.

Ability to work at a computer for the majority of the shift.

Work involves mental alertness.

Excellent prioritization and organization skills.
