Upward Bound

is a federally funded college-prep program created by the Higher Education Act of 1965 for high school students who are from low-income families and/or are potential first-generation college students. The program serves up to 70 students in a 6-week summer program, with classes, electives, athletics, tutoring, field trips, and social programming. Students commute to Mansfield or Wooster for classes and electives during one week, and reside in dormitories or apartments for four weeks, with the last week traveling out of state. under university policy. The program operates in northcentral and northeast Ohio and serves Orrville, Wooster, Canton, Madison, Mansfield, and Clear Fork, Ohio. Responsibilities

Provide personal, social, or skill development programming for a 10-student unit and collaborate with residential staff to extend programming to the whole group. Meet with the 10-student unit weekly. Regulate student behavior according to the program discipline code; communicate issues to the Academic Advisor and/or Director. Ensure dorm safety and monitor room conditions; report problems to appropriate staff. Tutoring: organize and provide tutoring for 1.5 hours each evening; communicate tutoring needs and progress with teachers. Attend daily and weekly staff meetings; provide or assist with elective and athletic activities (e.g., basketball, knitting, stress management, Zumba, film study). Supervise students during meals, free time, activities, study hours, and field trips; assist instructors on class field trips as needed. Be on call to assist with classes or emergencies; transport students daily as needed in University vehicles; accompany students seeking medical attention. Collect and manage receipts; gather and return funds, equipment, vehicles, or supplies used in program activities; run errands and help with meals cleanup. Maintain appropriate boundaries with students; model and reinforce positive behavior; promptly communicate needs and concerns to appropriate staff. Qualifications

Required

High School diploma or GED A valid driver’s license Preferred

0-2 years of relevant experience Rising college sophomore standing or higher; strong academic GPA Prior residential advisor experience Experience working with economically and educationally disadvantaged youth Position Details

Location: Northcentral and northeast Ohio; residence on campus or in OSU Mansfield housing during summer Hours: Summer — 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM training; other weeks involve 40+ hours per week with on-call requirements Academic Year (optional): weekends/evenings Sep–May, irregular and intermittent Shift: Varying shifts; on-call during nights Summer Start and End

Summer Start: June 1st, 2026 Summer End: July 20th, 2026 Compensation and Benefits
