Roller Operator - Paving - Hampton Roads
Department: Paving
Reports to: Paving Foreman
Major Role and Purpose Operate a self-propelled Roller with either steel drums or solid rubber wheels used for compacting hot mix asphalt.
Responsibilities
Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, local, state and company safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
Ride on the platform of the machine and move lever, pedals, or throttles to control and guide the machine.
Perform daily equipment checks (hydraulic fluid level, greasing, oil levels).
Use hand tools such as hand shovel, wrench, and screwdriver.
Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
Education
High School Diploma preferred.
Work Experience
Previous heavy highway construction experience preferred.
Knowledge of compacting procedures for different asphalt mixes.
Physical Demands
Stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching, and squatting.
Walking or standing may occupy the entire day.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Exposure to extremes of heat or cold weather.
Overtime work required.
Valid Driver's License with transportation to and from job sites.
