GENERAL SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Public Works Manager with direction from a Superintendent and/or Crew Leader, the Maintenance Tech performs a variety of tasks in the general installation, maintenance and repair of city streets, sidewalks, alleys, curbs, storm drains, maintenance at city parks, medians, Right-of-Way areas, municipal facilities and provides support to the public and assigned city departments and divisions.
Repairs city streets, sidewalks, alleys, curbs, storm drains, pipes, gutters, and miscellaneous repairs as required.
Performs street repairs and patching; lays asphalt, fills potholes.
Inspects work in progress and at completion for compliance with applicable policies, procedures, plans, specifications, and standards of quality and safety.
Removes debris, fallen trees, and limbs; replaces street signs as needed.
Assists with the maintenance, installation, and replacement of landscaping in city parks and municipal facilities.
Paints, repairs and maintains equipment, furniture, facilities and playground components.
Installs signs, plumbing, irrigation components, electrical fixtures, plugs and cabling.
Performs a variety of routine to skilled work to inspect, install, maintain, and repair water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances; inspects and tests lines in the distribution system; threads and fits pipes.
Performs valve maintenance and leak detection.
Turns on and off main line valves, hydrants, and fire service lines; pressure tests lines of new construction; exercises valves and hydrants.
Assist other divisions the maintenance and repair of system mains, water pipes, sewer system mains, and sewer pumps.
Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of City sewer utilities to include sewer pipes, sewer pumps and sewage systems.
Assists in cleaning, inspecting and repairing sewer mains.
Maintains safety regulations including wearing appropriate clothing, erecting proper barricades and signage, and using proper equipment and tools.
Performs in an outdoor environment.
Provides backup assistance, on-call coverage and support to other City departments as assigned.
Assists in the setup, teardown, and cleanup for special events and meetings.
Answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action
Completes reports on daily work assignments and activities as required.
Organizes tools, equipment and supplies necessary to complete assignments.
Inspects, cleans and maintains equipment and tools in safe operating order.
Performs routine inspections of assigned areas to detect any necessary repairs or hazardous conditions.
Travels to attend meetings and training.
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of general maintenance and repair techniques for common tools and equipment used in general parks and landscaping maintenance and repair work; and their basic safety precautions and procedures.
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assigned light equipment, power, and hand tools.
Knowledge of safe handling techniques of hazardous chemicals and materials.
Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
Skilled in the following:
Skill in following oral and written communications and directions.
Skill in planning and organizing materials and supplies necessary to complete work orders or daily assignments.
Skill in operating assigned equipment, tools, and vehicles.
Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE High School diploma or GED; and
Experience with safety, training, and operation of equipment
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS Valid Texas class C driver’s license is required with a good driving record.
PREFERENCES Certificate of training for courses related to water and safety training preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works mostly outdoors in extremes of heat and cold.
Works rotating on-call shift.
Ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand/eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate tools and equipment associated with the job.
Subject to repetitive motion and heavy manual labor such as painting, digging, building concrete forms, repairing asphalt, transporting, delivering and picking up trash containers and recyclables and water meters.
May be subject to extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, entering enclosed spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting such as repairing water and sewer lines, installing meters, weeding, landscaping, mowing grass, and operating other equipment.
May be exposed to moving traffic, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, heights, confined spaces, trenches, air and water-borne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, rodents and insects.
