Position Summary The Engineering Technician I is responsible for supporting the electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing and evaluation of new and existing electromechanical medical devices. This role involves hands‑on testing activities, test stand setup, data collection, and collaboration with engineering teams to support product development and reliability efforts.

Primary Responsibilities

Perform testing of products in the Reliability Test Laboratory according to requirements defined by Product and Reliability Engineering teams.

Set up, operate, monitor, and maintain test stands and test equipment for mechanical, electrical, and environmental evaluations.

Follow direction from the Reliability Test Manager, Lab Supervisor, and Test Engineers regarding safe work practices, equipment usage, test execution, and data recording.

Execute assigned tests accurately and on schedule, ensuring complete and timely documentation of results.

Communicate test results, observations, and issues to appropriate engineering and project stakeholders.

Conduct teardown, destructive testing, and test‑to‑failure activities as part of product development and reliability analysis.

Support verification and validation testing for proposed or implemented design changes to existing products.

Perform competitive product testing in support of new product development initiatives.

Participate in product failure analysis in collaboration with project engineers, including providing input and observations that may support design improvements.

Set up and operate a variety of electrical, mechanical, and electronic test equipment, including:

Product‑specific test fixtures

Mechanical gauges and electronic measurement devices

Design and document test configurations and setups.

Prepare clear and accurate test reports summarizing methods, results, and conclusions.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 6 years of experience in testing, laboratory, or related technical environments.

Strong understanding of electromechanical systems with the ability to identify mechanical, electrical, or system‑level abnormalities.

Hands‑on experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills to maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with engineers and management.

Experience working with measurement and test equipment.

Working knowledge of pneumatics.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.

Working knowledge of mechanical gauging and instruments, including micrometers, calipers, force gauges, dial indicators, and hardness testers.

Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience performing environmental testing (shock, vibration, thermal, humidity, electromagnetic, etc.).

Knowledge of PLCs, Ladder Logic, and microcontrollers.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Associate’s Degree (AA) strongly preferred.

1–2 years of mechanical or electrical experience preferred, or engineering graduates with relevant internship experience.

Basic computer skills required.
