Telework Hybrid – may be eligible for telework at department discretion

Employment Type Permanent, Full‑Time

Working Hours Standard office hours with field and travel requirements; may involve overnight stays and travel throughout the district.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Pavement/Bridge/Drainage/Facilities Manager and a Senior Transportation Engineer, support the District 5 Maintenance Program.

Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for major maintenance projects including roadway, roadside, structures, traffic guidance, electrical, drainage, TBMP, and facilities projects.

Identify and review field conditions, propose solutions, and determine priority needs.

Analyze current condition of maintenance program assets and prepare reports and recommendations for program element requirements.

Coordinate with district and HQ functional units to prepare project PS&E packages.

Review project priority and develop annual project proposals for the maintenance program.

Prepare and deliver Minor B Projects and Service Contracts.

Qualifications

Meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for the Transportation Engineer (Civil) classification.

Eligibility may be determined by score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam.

Required: Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) that addresses specific competency questions.

Special Requirements

Appointment to Range D requires a valid Civil Professional Engineering License issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. PE license not required for other ranges.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required – must be typed, single‑spaced, no more than two pages, 12‑point Arial font.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) The SOQ must address the following three competency questions in the order indicated:

1. Why you are the best candidate for the role.

2. Describe a challenging experience dealing with project issues, how you handled it, and key take‑away lessons.

3. Describe how you approach building positive, constructive, and professional relationships.
