About the Division of Youth Services
The mission of the Division of Youth Services (DYS) is to protect, restore and improve public safety utilizing a continuum of care that provides effective supervision, promotes accountability to victims and communities, and helps youth lead constructive lives through positive youth development. The strategic goal of DYS is to operate healthy trauma-responsive organizational environments as demonstrated through prosocial, safe, and non-violent interactions. DYS provides a continuum of services that encompass juvenile detention, assessment, commitment and parole. The Division operates 15 secure facilities that serve youth between 10 and 21, who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced, or committed. About the position
This position serves as a Communication, Surveillance, and Safety Coordinator. Responsibilities include modeling, upholding, and ensuring compliance with DYS policy and compliance standards, overseeing the body-worn camera (BWC) program, and providing oversight to cameras, radios, DVRs, perimeter lighting, metal detection, mail, fire safety and secure fencing. Duties support dignity, respect, fairness, and equity for youth and staff, uphold transparency and accountability, and maintain professional boundaries per CDHS and DYS policies.
Duties Include:
Communication, Surveillance, and Safety Coordinator : liaison with BWC company, manage staff user profiles, ensure camera usage guidelines, review videos, assist in personnel concerns, and maintain confidentiality consistent with CDHS policy.
Incident Response Coaching and Feedback : oversee direct care staff, complete personnel documentation, train staff on incident policies, and mentor staff in performance improvement.
Safety & Security/Emergency : provide operational directives, evaluate incidents, monitor youth safety and movement, conduct drills, ensure compliance with safety policies, and supervise security procedures.
Internal Quality Control : review incidents, ensure proper documentation of abuse/neglect reporting, support video review for investigations, and coordinate with administration.
Organizational Accountability : promote a healthy, respectful culture; adhere to CDHS/DYS policies; participate in mandatory training and professional development.
Other duties and notes : Performs other duties as assigned. Read the entire job announcement and provide documentation as required. Some sections include references to training, pre-service requirements, and compliance with state policies.
Minimum qualifications
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
High school diploma or GED
Two (2) years of professional experience in a related occupational field
Substitutions: Additional appropriate education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred qualifications College education in a behavioral health or juvenile justice field
Experience with adjudicated/detained youth in secure residential or behavioral health settings
Experience facilitating psychoeducational groups and working with trauma-exposed youth
Experience mentoring youth and using verbal de-escalation techniques
Conditions of employment Background checks and screenings as required (CDHS/CDYS), driver’s license validation, and other safeguards
Shift work and travel expectations; must be 21+ with no felony/domestic violence history
Vaccinations as required; pre-service and ongoing training commitments
