Pond is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead and grow our Mechanical Engineering discipline within the Energy and Fueling markets. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and operational oversight, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality mechanical design services while developing and mentoring a team of engineers and designers. The Mechanical Discipline Manager will serve as a technical authority and people leader, responsible for staff development, workload planning, quality control, and alignment with company standards and best practices. This position will collaborate closely with project managers, discipline leads, and senior leadership to support business growth and maintain technical excellence across a diverse portfolio of projects, including DoD fueling systems, commercial aviation, oil & gas, power delivery, renewables, and utilities. Responsibilities
People Leadership & Discipline Management Lead, mentor, and supervise mechanical engineers and designers across multiple experience levels Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional development of mechanical staff Establish and maintain discipline standards, design guidelines, tools, and best practices Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and safety-focused team culture Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance Provide technical direction and oversight for mechanical designs, calculations, and specifications Serve as a technical escalation point for complex or high-risk engineering challenges Review and approve engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with codes, client requirements, and Pond standards Ensure consistency and quality across mechanical deliverables and project execution Project & Operational Support Coordinate with project managers on staffing plans, workload forecasting, and resource utilization Support project planning, scope development, schedules, and technical risk management Collaborate with other discipline managers to support integrated, multidisciplinary project delivery Participate in internal and external design reviews and client technical discussions Business Development & Strategic Support Assist with proposal development, staffing plans, technical approaches, and fee estimates Support client relationships by providing technical credibility and discipline leadership Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and long-term discipline growth strategies Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree a plus 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, preferably in a consulting environment Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring engineering teams Professional Engineer (PE) license required Strong background in mechanical systems design, preferably within fueling, energy, or industrial markets Proven ability to balance technical oversight with people leadership and operational responsibilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship Preferred Experience
DoD fueling systems, military airfields, or commercial aviation fueling infrastructure Piping systems, tanks, pump systems, hydrant fueling systems, and related mechanical infrastructure Hydraulic analysis, system modeling, and stress analysis Development and enforcement of engineering standards, specifications, and QA/QC processes Experience supporting proposals, client presentations, and technical interviews
