Job Summary
A heavy labor position responsible for performing water and wastewater duties for the City of Lancaster. Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of water distribution and collection systems, operating equipment for water main breaks, overseeing repairs, conducting smoke and water line testing, laying new mains, distributing public correspondence notices, and being on call 24/7. This role may supervise a crew of 1–3 staff members in the absence of the crew leader.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of water distribution and water collection systems.
Responds to water/wastewater problems and supervises crew of 1–3 staff members when the crew leader is absent.
Operates equipment on water main breaks, water lines, and oversees the repair of manhole rings and lids.
Oversees smoke testing and water line testing and performs applicable repairs.
Lays new water/sewer mains.
Distributes public correspondence notices and smoke test notices door‑to‑door to City of Lancaster citizens.
Available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week on call for water/wastewater response situations.
Assigned as primary on‑call responder once per month as scheduled.
Cleans and maintains the appearance of work equipment and work areas.
Responsible for inventory of tools and equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
Valid Class B (CDL) driver’s license with clean driving record.
Class D Water Certification.
Class D Waste Water Certification.
Confined Space Entrant Certification.
