Brief Job Description:

The School Librarian & Digital Learning Teacher leads the school’s library and digital learning program in support of academic excellence and Catholic values. This role fosters a love of reading, research, and lifelong learning while promoting responsible technology use grounded in the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church. The specialist collaborates with faculty and staff to integrate information literacy, digital citizenship, and faith-based values into classroom instruction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities CATHOLIC DIMENSION

Integrates Church teachings and Catholic social teaching throughout the curriculum

Actively participates in the faith life of the school and faith formation experiences

Ensures prayer is a regular and meaningful part of classroom and school routines

Provides opportunities for Christian service learning within the curriculum

Demonstrates a clear understanding of and commitment to Catholic identity

Participates in adult faith formation and ongoing professional development

Effectively applies catechetical methods in instruction

Creates sacred space within the classroom environment

Leads daily prayer and participates in school liturgies

Supports and participates in First Holy Communion preparation for students

LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains the daily operation and organization of the library, including shelving, inventory, and upkeep of print and digital materials

Manages student access to the library and oversees the checkout and return of books and resources

Teaches and reinforces proper care, use, and responsibility for library materials

Assists students in selecting appropriate books and resources to support reading, research, and learning

Integrates literacy, research skills, and digital literacy through library instruction and programming

Provides opportunities for inquiry-based learning, research projects, and cross-curricular support

Supports reading engagement through book talks, library activities, and school-wide initiatives

Demonstrates ethical information practices and responsible use of resources

DIGITAL LITERACY & DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP

Teach digital literacy skills, including:

Safe, responsible, and ethical technology use

Digital citizenship and appropriate online behavior

Evaluating online sources and identifying misinformation

Media literacy and critical thinking

Understanding digital footprints, privacy, and online responsibility

Model appropriate technology use and responsible digital behavior

Supports student projects involving 3D design and printing

Introduces and supports hands‑on learning with emerging technologies, including 3D printing and robotics

Teaches foundational skills related to design thinking, coding, and problem‑solving through age‑appropriate robotics activities

Maintains and oversees digital tools, equipment, and resources related to technology programs

Stays current with best practices and emerging trends in digital literacy, robotics, and educational technology

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION & SUPPORT

Support the use of educational technology tools, databases, and digital platforms

Collaborate with teachers to integrate technology meaningfully into instruction

Assist with basic troubleshooting related to library and digital resources

Stay current with emerging educational technologies and best practices

PROGRAMMING & ENGAGEMENT

Develop and support library and digital learning programs and events

Promote a culture of reading, inquiry, and digital responsibility

Support student projects involving multimedia, digital storytelling, and presentations

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Maintain compliance with Safe Environment requirements through attendance at a diocesan Safe Environment workshop and completion of ongoing training requirements as assigned

Follows and enforces school procedures and policies

Sets, enforces and shares behavioral and work standards with students and parents/guardians

Establishes and maintains consistent procedures for group work, transition time and non‑instructional activities in the classroom and the school

Preplans activities of the class with regard to materials, use of time, and scope of program

Monitors student behavior at all times; responds to behavior in an effective and sensitive manner using positive reinforcement or appropriate consequences

Oversees distribution and return of textbooks and supplemental student materials; completes an inventory of materials and equipment in the classroom as needed

Ensures all necessary materials are available for substitute teachers including class roster, outline of program planned for the day; location of records, seating chart if applicable and any extra duty assignments

PROFESSIONALISM

Establishes and maintains appropriate relationships with students, parents, staff and community members by communicating in a tactful, courteous, and confidential manner

Respects the legality and confidentiality of documentation, record‑keeping and communication

Exhibits personal behaviors that promote student learning including punctuality, regular attendance, sense of humor, initiative, energy and enthusiasm

Exhibits professional behavior that affects student learning, professional dress, mature judgment, fairness, poise and self‑control

Models professional behavior when utilizing social media

Reads and keeps current on theory and educational best practices; seeks and participates in opportunities for professional growth

PRINCIPAL ASSIGNMENTS

Attends faculty meetings, department chair meetings and other administrative meetings as requested

Reviews emergency drills and procedures with students

Completes reports and surveys as requested and submits budget request to principal annually

Performs responsibilities with integrity, honoring confidences and loyalties ascribed to and required of a faculty position

Other duties as requested by principal

STUDENT/BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT

Supervises students inside and outside the classroom in accordance with the regulations established by the school

Responsible for tracking attendance and procedures related established by school administration

Qualifications: Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree required

Valid New York State teaching certification required

Previous experience working with children and providing instruction in a school setting preferred

Previous coaching experience preferred

Ability to keep informed about innovations and programs with respect to the teaching of ELA

Salary:

Starts at $31,500.00
