NC State Dining is seeking individuals to join our Pack as a

Line Station Cook . Successful candidates will receive instructions from the chef and other culinary professionals in a dining hall, food court or restaurant setting.

Core Responsibilities

Prepare food as per the standardized recipes and specifications.

Perform small‑batch cooking and made‑to‑order items, display station set‑up and service, transport cooked foods to hot boxes for line service.

Provide support to front‑of‑house operations with back‑up food to eliminate lag time when changing food items.

May work as a grill cook or sushi cook, preparing either cook‑to‑order menu items or following standardized recipes to ensure excellent quality, appearance, and taste.

May work as a prep‑cook, following the cook’s directions or according to the recipe, including preparation of ingredients for recipes and production of food items.

Portion food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications.

Check temperatures and proper storage of food items, following guidelines to prevent contamination and spoilage.

Operate all kitchen equipment safely and as recommended by the manufacturer.

Perform necessary cleaning of utensils, work space, tables, shelves, and equipment to maintain a Grade “A” Sanitation rating.

Other duties as assigned to meet NC State Dining business needs, including assistance at other locations as necessary.

Work Schedule Shifts are available from early morning to late nights, including weekends. Full‑time and part‑time positions are available.

Qualifications & Preferences

High School Diploma or equivalency.

One year of commercial cooking experience or previous grill and/or sushi cook experience.

Culinary Arts education (certificate, diploma or degree) is preferred.

Serve Safe certification.

Demonstrated understanding of proper food safety, cleaning and sanitation procedures.

Ability to work proficiently in a busy kitchen and adapt to changing customer volume.

Strong communication skills with customers, supervisors, and peers.

Knowledge of equipment, cooking methods, measurements and food safety.

Ability to follow safety procedures and handle sharp items such as knives and slicer blades.

Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk, bend, twist, pull, and push; must tolerate extremely hot and cold conditions.

Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
