Salary Range $45,000-52,000 annually, depending on experience and education
Desired Start Date August 2026, with required attendance at teacher training conference in Hillsdale, MI, in June of 2026
Position Summary Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND) is hiring a music and choir teacher for the 2026-27 school year. We seek candidates who model good character and provide excellent instruction in their content areas based on classical pedagogy and curriculum. Ideal candidates demonstrate high standards of excellence, a professional demeanor, a warm rapport with students, clear communication with parents, and a can‑do attitude to join our team.
This position has the unique opportunity to build an upper school choir program on the foundation of a flourishing grammar school music program.
Essential Functions
Teach music and choir classes in upper grammar school and upper school classes, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
Prepare unit and lesson plans following curriculum guidelines for each year
Manage students graded work in a timely manner
Communicate regularly, usually weekly, with supervisor, teammates, and student's parents
Organize, prepare, and facilitate an annual Christmas concert for all grade levels and additional performance and community‑building events and opportunities throughout the school year
Continuously monitor student progress and self‑evaluate how best to support effective student learning, and proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle
Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
Participate in professional development as offered by ACAND and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
Maintain confidentiality in student records
Complete all required training and provide documentation as well as official college transcripts within 90 days of hire date
Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace
Perform other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
Commitment to the mission and vision of Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver and a high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self‑government
Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 36 credit hours in Education or a Music related field (Colorado Teaching license is NOT required)
Adherence to all school policies
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Proven ability to work in a fast‑paced and deadline‑oriented environment
Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Creative problem‑solving skills
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
Must be able to traverse classroom and building
Must be able to provide instruction in various spaces dependent upon facilities availability
Must be able to transport teaching materials and manipulatives
Must be able to supervise outdoor recess periods for up to 25 minutes outdoors
Mandatory Background Checks
Convictions for violent crimes, such as assault or domestic violence.
Convictions for offenses against children, including abuse or endangerment.
Drug‑related offenses, particularly those involving the distribution or trafficking of controlled substances.
Certain felony convictions, depending on their nature and recency.
