Overview:
Under supervision of a manager, supervisor or field manager, the cafeteria worker performs routine duties involved in the production and serving of food and cleaning kitchen facilities and equipment. This entry‑level position provides on‑the‑job training in basic food production and cafeteria operations from managers and other Division of Food and Nutrition Services staff.
Physical Demands & Special Requirements Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, movement of objects weighing 40–60 pounds, operation of commercial food service equipment, continuous standing and extreme variations in temperature.
Qualifications Education:
Completion of ninth grade required; high school or GED diploma preferred.
Experience & Training:
Experience with food preparation techniques and safety procedures. Sanitation certification required or to be obtained within first six months of employment.
Skills:
Ability to work with students, teachers and school leadership staff; basic human relations skills; ability to follow HACCP guidelines; standard sanitation procedures; ability to gather necessary menu items, recipe ingredients and supplies; effective communication skills.
Job Specific Information Grade 6 (Building Service Worker/Cafeteria Worker I) Wage range: $20.00–$28.53 per hour
