Job Summary The Slide Attendant is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of the water slide and surrounding areas. This role includes monitoring the slide, enforcing safety rules, assisting patrons, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The attendant works under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisor and collaborates with other staff to deliver a positive experience for YMCA members and guests.

Essential Functions

Operate the top of the water slide, ensuring smooth and safe rides for patrons.

Enforce water rules to ensure the safety of patrons.

Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.

Know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Complete related reports as required.

Maintain effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.

Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.

Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.

Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

Attend all staff meetings and in-service training.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum age of 15.

Certifications: ASHI Basic Life Support (ASHI CPR Pro), Basic First Aid. Slide Attendants will receive training upon hire.

Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.

Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.

Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.

See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
