In this advanced-level role, you’ll work directly with customers to remove barriers, create personalized self-sufficiency plans, and connect people with the resources they need to succeed. You’ll collaborate with community partners, employers, and fellow professionals, while having the autonomy to make a real impact every day.
What You’ll Do:
Provide direct customer service and intensive case management to individuals receiving or seeking Human Services assistance
Conduct employability assessments and develop individualized employment and self-sufficiency plans
Support job search, placement, retention, and career counseling efforts
Determine eligibility for financial assistance programs (e.g., TANF, SNAP, Medicaid, Child Care, Energy Assistance)
Issue vouchers, maintain accurate case records, and prepare reports with a high level of accuracy
Coordinate referrals for supportive services such as childcare, transportation, housing, uniforms, and training
Partner with community agencies, employers, and internal staff to deliver coordinated services
Stay current on federal, state, and local policies impacting Human Services programs
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or related field of study required.
A minimum of one year of experience in human services, including direct experience administering at least three (3) financial benefit programs such as TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), Medicaid, Child Care, Energy Assistance, or similar programs.
Experience working in a team and/or customer service setting is required.
Prior experience working with Human Service agencies or experience using the VACMS/MMIS computer systems is required.
A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
Must successfully pass a Child Protective Services (CPS) and criminal background check related to this position before any offer of employment or promotion.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.

Requires excellent customer service skills with the demonstrated ability to foster and maintain positive, effective working relationships with colleagues, partner agencies, and the public.
Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
May be required to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.
Extensive contact with the general public, related agencies, community organizations, agency staff, and other City departments.
The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during city emergencies, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
