Job Title Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor)

Department & Classification Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR)

Job Requisition: JR# 3331

Salary $7,172.00 - $8,910.00 per month. New-to-State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of an alternate range when applicable.

Work Location and Telework Policy Location: Accounting Services Branch – General Ledger, Sacramento County.

Work Type: Full Time, Permanent, Hybrid (telework and in‑office). The position requires a combination of telework and office work in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed.

Working Conditions The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Main communication for this position will be through email.

Minimum Requirements

Experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, and fiscal management.

Experience overseeing accurate and timely month‑end and year‑end closing financial activities.

Experience managing or leading a team.

Strong knowledge of governmental accounting standards, including GAAP, SAM, UCM, and Government Code.

Strong collaboration and clear communication abilities across internal teams and external control agencies and auditors.

Strong attention to detail and analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, variances, and problem areas in accounting and financial operations and implement solutions.

Strong organization and time‑management skills.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Access, Teams, Power BI, etc.) and automated accounting systems.

Responsibilities The Accounting Services Branch / General Ledger Unit is dedicated to providing reliable and high‑quality accounting services to CDCR’s internal and external customers. Responsibilities include:

Performing financial reconciliations.

Posting fund and appropriation‑level journal entries and corrections.

Monitoring all financial activities and master‑data tables.

Coordinating and preparing the department’s Year‑End Financial Statements.

Special Requirements Do not include confidential information on any documents you submit, such as SSN, birthdate, student ID, driver’s license number, etc. Documents with such information will be automatically redacted.

Statement of Qualifications A SOQ (maximum 2 pages, Arial 12 pt.) must accompany the State Application. It should address the following prompts:

Describe your ability to manage a critical workload, meet deadlines, and handle stressful situations. Provide specific examples.

Describe how you have encouraged collaboration and communication between your team, other accounting units, and other departments to ensure everyone works toward the state and CDCR’s mission and goals.

Outline your approach for identifying gaps in accounting processes or systems and describe how you resolve them. Provide specific examples.

Failure to submit a SOQ will result in disqualification from the interview process.
