is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean, healing environment. The technician ensures daily room cleaning and timely room turnaround times, maintains environmental hygiene and infection prevention, and is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience.

Environmental Services Responsibilities
Cleaning and disinfection of all hospital areas, including patient rooms, operating rooms, corridors, and common areas.
Waste management: proper disposal of medical and non‑medical waste, including hazardous materials.
Linen services: distribution and cleaning of linens used throughout the hospital.
Pest control: implementation of measures to prevent and control pest infestations.
Environmental sustainability: promotion of eco‑friendly practices such as recycling and energy conservation.
Operating Hours The Environmental Services department operates 24/7 to ensure continuous cleanliness and safety.
Patient Population Served
Women and babies – specialized care for women and newborns.
Labor and Delivery – comprehensive care for expectant mothers, including high‑risk pregnancies.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – specialized care for premature and critically ill newborns.
Gynecology – minimally invasive surgery, urogynecology, and pelvic health services.
Breastfeeding education – support and education for new mothers.
Counseling services – emotional and psychological support for patients and families.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions
Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers using appropriate engagement techniques.
Clean and disinfect patient rooms and ancillary areas, including bathrooms, public areas, corridors, medication storage rooms, and any other areas that may require attention.
Maintain knowledge of and use all department‑related technology systems, such as Bed Management systems.
Replenish supplies, remove bio‑medical waste, trash, and soiled linen daily and change cubicle/window curtains as needed.
Complete patient room and bathroom cleaning daily to accommodate discharges/admissions and overall cleanliness standards, utilizing approved procedures.
Demonstrate working knowledge of health‑care cleaning and disinfecting principles, proper chemical use, equipment handling, and labor‑saving products.
Adhere to safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards, promoting a culture of safety.
Operate UV disinfection machine as needed.
Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including initiatives to improve customer experience and cleanliness metrics.
Follow infection prevention practices: hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, and proper donning and doffing of PPE.
Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
Report unsafe situations and submit Engineering Service Requests for repair.
Communicate, read, and write in standard English (the main business language).
Maintain regularly punctual attendance in compliance with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications Education/Training:
None required.
Experience:
No experience or less than 3 years in health‑care support services and/or environmental services, hospitality, or related field.
