Position Summary
Join Our Team at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies! The Environmental Services Technician Level I is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean, healing environment. The position ensures daily room cleaning and timely room turnaround times related to patients within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. In accordance with organizational standards of quality, the technician is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience.

Environmental Services Department
Cleaning and Disinfection: Ensures all areas of the hospital, including patient rooms, operating rooms, and common areas, are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to maintain a safe environment.
Waste Management: Handles the proper disposal of medical and non‑medical waste, including hazardous materials.
Linen Services: Manages the distribution and cleaning of linens used throughout the hospital.
Pest Control: Implements measures to prevent and control pest infestations.
Environmental Sustainability: Promotes eco‑friendly practices such as recycling and energy conservation.
Physical Location and Operating Hours: The department operates 24/7 to ensure continuous cleanliness and safety.
Patient Population Served
Women and Babies: The hospital specializes in the healthcare needs of women and newborns.
Labor and Delivery: Comprehensive care for expectant mothers, including high‑risk pregnancies.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Specialized care for premature and critically ill newborns.
Gynecology: Services include minimally invasive surgery, urogynecology, and pelvic health.
Breastfeeding Education: Support and education for new mothers on breastfeeding practices.
Counseling Services: Emotional and psychological support for patients and their families.

Responsibilities
Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers using appropriate engagement techniques.
Clean and disinfect patient rooms and ancillary areas, including bathrooms, public areas, corridors, and medication storage rooms, using designated chemicals and procedures.
Access and use all department‑related technology systems (e.g., Bed Management systems).
Replenish supplies as needed; remove bio‑medical waste, trash, and soiled linen daily; change cubicle/window curtains as required.
Complete patient room and bathroom cleaning daily to accommodate discharges/Admissions and overall cleanliness standards.
Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles, proper chemical use, equipment handling, and labor‑saving products.
Adhere to all organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards.
Operate UV disinfection machines as needed.
Participate in departmental performance‑improvement initiatives, including those focused on customer experience and cleanliness metrics.
Follow all infection‑prevention practices (hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, proper donning/doffing of PPE).
Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
Report unsafe situations and submit Engineering Service Requests for repair.
Communicate, read, and write in standard English; this is the main business language.
Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Experience:
No experience or less than 3 years in healthcare support services, environmental services, hospitality, or related field.
