Job Title Long Term Substitute – 0.5 FTE Kindergarten Classroom Assistant

Qualifications

Paraprofessional or Substitute License is required.

High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and the public.

Uses/operates computer or digital equipment related to the position.

Demonstrates proficient use of English in written and oral forms.

Patience and ability to gain student cooperation.

Assists in the implementation of instructional programs and monitors student behavior.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions

Provide individual help and assistance to students as requested.

Assist in providing individualized and/or small group instruction and supervision.

Reinforce learning objectives to small groups or individuals.

Help teacher with class instruction; work with small groups to reinforce lessons, provide one‑on‑one instruction, and supervise students.

Assist with a variety of activities (songs, stories, media, structured games, art, outdoor activities) to motivate and stimulate children’s abilities.

Collect and organize teaching materials for the classroom teacher as needed.

Assist the teacher in preparing the classroom for opening and closing of school.

Help maintain order in classroom; monitor students to keep them on task.

Assist in creating an environment conducive to learning, appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

Assist in monitoring and supervising students during field trips and special events; escort children who need to leave the classroom.

Maintain classroom supplies, retrieve materials, clean up workspaces, gather belongings.

Supervise outdoor recess, lunch, and bus supervision before and after school as assigned, and enforce expectations for behavior.

Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Context Spending part of each day outdoors in varying weather conditions; occasional lifting of weights up to 50 lbs.; significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
