The University of Alabama System (UA System) is seeking applications for the position of University Counsel. This on‑site role is based in Tuscaloosa on the campus of The University of Alabama (UA). Reporting to the Chief University Counsel, the University Counsel will provide a broad range of legal services and strategic advice to The University of Alabama and its affiliated entities.
Responsibilities
Advise on a broad spectrum of higher education legal matters, including litigation, regulatory compliance, business transactions, and employment law
Provide responsive and strategic legal support to a diverse group of UA stakeholders, navigating complex issues with professionalism, clarity, and expertise
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated success in effectively serving a broad, diverse, and demanding clientele
Excellent legal research, analysis, and problem‑solving skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience in working cohesively on team projects
Established ability to exercise independent judgment
Professional appearance and demeanor
Education/Training/Experience
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials
Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama or must become so licensed as soon as practicable but no more than within eight (8) months of hire
A minimum of 2 years of relevant legal experience
