Position Title: Emergency Services Dispatcher 1
Alaska State Troopers – Fairbanks. This recruitment is open to Alaska residents only and is exempt from the hiring freeze (Administrative Order 358).
Job type: Front‑line emergency dispatcher. Applicants must meet the Alaska Residency Requirement.
Responsibilities
Maintain positivity and resiliency while providing support for the field enforcement units of the Department of Public Safety at the Alaska State Troopers Northern Operations Center.
Display professionalism, compassion, and support to all individuals contacted in the line of duty—including the public, field enforcement units, civilian staff, other agencies, and coworkers.
Answer emergency and non‑emergency calls for service via radio and phone for areas throughout the state of Alaska.
Qualifications
Experience producing consistently high‑quality work in an environment with numerous interruptions and rapidly shifting priorities.
Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
Willingness to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Ability to operate multiple telephone lines.
Exceptional critical thinking skills.
Minimum of two years of work experience, including 6 months of clerical tasks (greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, maintaining logs) and a typing speed of at least 30 words per minute with no more than three errors per minute.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting up to 18 months.
Background investigation required upon initial employment.
Ability to multitask and maintain emotional control and composure to work effectively during emergencies, crisis situations, and/or extremely stressful conditions.
