Position
To operate a transit system bus to safely transport passengers on an assigned route as directed.
Responsibilities
Drive transit system bus along assigned route; observe traffic safety rules; maintain schedules.
Greets boarding passengers; collects fares and transfers; ensures safe entry/exit; provides information; maintains order; assists elderly and disabled passengers.
Perform pre‑trip inspections; sweep bus daily and empty trash; fuel as directed.
Prepare accident, maintenance, and incident reports; maintain accurate passenger count; submit to supervisor.
Respond appropriately to emergencies and vehicle breakdowns.
Consult with other operators regarding transfers.
Operate two‑way radio to provide information or receive advice/direction.
Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Two (2) years of previous experience and/or training involving bus driving, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including required endorsement(s).
Core Competencies & ADA Compliance Data Utilization: Ability to determine, calculate, tabulate, or summarize data/information and act accordingly.
Human Interaction: Provide guidance, assistance, or interpretation to apply procedures and standards.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Operate and control equipment requiring complex rapid adjustments.
Verbal Aptitude: Communicate descriptive data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Perform basic arithmetic and recording counts.
Functional Reasoning: Apply principles of rational systems; interpret instructions; exercise judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards.
Situational Reasoning: Exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity to evaluate information against criteria.
Physical Ability: Moderate physical effort; stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling moderate weight (12‑20 lb).
Sensory Requirements: Perceive and discern colors, sounds, odors, textures; communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Exposure to adverse conditions (dirt, dust, pollen, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature extremes, traffic hazards, violence, disease).
