Part‑Time Transit System Operator
Location: Albany, Georgia. This part‑time position is posted by the City of Albany and is suitable for candidates who can safely operate a transit bus.
Job Purpose: Safely operate a transit system bus to transport passengers on an assigned route, following all traffic safety rules and maintaining schedules.
Drive transit system bus along the assigned route; check traffic safety rules; maintain transit schedules.
Greet boarding passengers, collect fares and transfers, and ensure passengers enter and exit the bus safely.
Provide passenger information and directions; maintain order on the bus; assist elderly and passengers with disabilities as needed.
Perform pre‑trip inspections, sweep daily, empty trash cans, and fuel the bus as directed.
Prepare accident reports, vehicle maintenance reports, and incident reports; maintain accurate passenger counts; submit reports to supervisor.
Respond appropriately to emergency situations or vehicle breakdowns.
Consult with other operators regarding transfers.
Operate two‑way radio to provide information or receive advice/direction.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
At least two (2) years of previous experience and/or training involving bus driving, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including the appropriate endorsement(s).
Core Competencies & ADA Compliance Highlights
Data utilization and mathematical aptitude to manage passenger counts and reports.
Human interaction skills to provide assistance and communicate effectively with passengers.
Equipment and machinery skills to operate and maintain the transit bus.
Verbal aptitude for clear communication of instructions and directions.
Situational and functional reasoning to handle varied operational scenarios.
Physical ability to exert moderate effort, stoop, kneel, carry items up to 20 pounds, and work in various environmental conditions.
