About the Role We are seeking an experienced attorney with a strong background in Medicaid planning and special needs planning. This role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, steady, and exceptionally clear in their communication. You will guide clients and their families through sensitive and often urgent decisions involving long-term care, eligibility requirements, spend-down strategies, and asset protection.
This position combines Medicaid planning with traditional estate planning work, allowing you to build long-term client relationships while also helping families address immediate care needs. You will partner closely with our team and play a meaningful role in growing and strengthening this practice area within our firm.
What You’ll Do
Assess Medicaid eligibility and guide clients through spend-down strategies
Develop asset protection plans including transfers, trusts, annuities, and exempt resource planning
Draft Medicaid planning documents including caregiver agreements and personal services contracts
Prepare and file Medicaid applications, renewals, and appeals
Communicate with state agencies and represent clients in Medicaid hearings as appropriate
Draft estate planning documents including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney
Guide clients and families through long-term care decisions with empathy and clarity
Collaborate with team members and clients’ outside professionals to provide seamless support
Maintain steady communication with clients to ensure they feel informed, supported, and prepared throughout the process
Track deadlines, application timelines, and documentation requirements with precision

Qualifications
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Kentucky
Experience in Medicaid planning, elder law, or long-term care planning required
Estate planning experience and strong drafting skills preferred
Familiarity with Medicaid rules, look-back periods, and crisis planning strategies
3 or more years of related legal experience
Base salary range of $90,000 to $140,000, commensurate with experience
Bonus opportunities available
