Position Overview
This position is responsible for performing specialized duties in the operation of a water treatment plant and water distribution system. Water Operator Certification (Level I, II, or III) is preferred, but applications will also be accepted for non-certified workers who have the ability to become state-certified when eligible.
Responsibilities
Duties include the operation of equipment to control water flow and maintain proper operating levels. Service, maintain, operate and repair facilities and equipment including pumping devices. Install, repair, and maintain the water distribution system and fire hydrants throughout the City. Responds to after-hour emergencies. Qualifications
Basic high school education and sufficient experience to understand basic principles of a water distribution and maintenance system such as an apprenticeship or experience working. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid SD driver’s license. Ability to readily obtain appropriate state-certified water operators certification upon eligibility. Application Process

A non-certified worker anticipated starting wage is $20.974 (2025); Operator I entry level wage is $24.324 (2025); Operator II entry level wage is $25.555 (2025); Operator III entry level wage is $26.849 (2025).
