Range of the Position/ Grade: $93,150 – $156,570 | Grade 340 FLSA Status: Exempt – Full-time The Building Official performs building plan review, administers applicable local, state and federal building-related codes, calculates fees, issues permits, and performs inspections. Key Responsibilities: Permit & Plan Oversight – Coordinate and oversee permit application processing, calculate permit fees, and review plans. Code Review & Guidance – Review construction plans for compliance with ICC and municipal codes that regulate building safety; provide technical guidance. Public & Professional Support – Answer code questions from residents, contractors, and design professionals. Code Updates & Fee Management – Recommend code amendments and oversee permit fees. Process & Performance Improvement – Streamline procedures, track metrics, and meet department goals. Consultant & Contract Management – Manage consultants, contracts, and assist with budgeting. Interdepartmental & Emergency Support – Collaborate with departments and support emergency inspections. Reporting & Presentations – Prepare reports and present to boards and commissions. Professional Development & Other Duties – Stay current on industry trends and perform related duties as assigned. Must haves for the ideal candidate include: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major coursework in construction technology, architecture, engineering or a related field (preferred). Ten (10) years increasingly responsible experience as an architect, engineer, inspector, contractor, superintendent of construction, or any combination of these. Preferred candidate will have 1–3 years of experience supervising one to two direct reports. Possession of, or ability to obtain, International Code Council (ICC) Certified Residential/Commercial Building Inspector (preferred) Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local building codes and regulations. Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, site plans and use a computer with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications. Meeting deadlines, multitasking and establishing/maintaining effective working relationships with contractors, the general public, and other team members.
