Job Description The Central Engineering organization is seeking to hire a highly dedicated and motivated individual to join the Substation Reliability Engineering section. The ideal candidate will play a major role in the monitoring and assessment of transmission and substation equipment health and performance. The Sr Engineer will develop, update, and manage all Asset Management Plans, facilitate equipment reliability teams and the corrective action program. This requires gathering equipment health related data, developing, and analyzing performance trends, and recommending improvements such as planned asset replacement or modification of maintenance strategies. The Sr Engineer will assist in the installation and maintenance of equipment condition monitoring systems, will analyze data from these systems and take appropriate action. The candidate will also actively participate in Research & Development projects associated with implementation of new technologies to lower equipment lifecycle costs. Collaboration with and support for personnel in Substation Operations and System and Transmission Operations will be required.

Responsibilities Core Responsibilities

Continually monitor and assess equipment health, initiate corrective actions for problems, evaluate as-found conditions to enhance predictive capabilities, and identify adverse performance trends to facilitate common cause analysis and corrective actions.

Implement and maintain software tools that provide equipment information to Operations (immediate concerns) and Engineering (long-term health).

Create ad-hoc and customized data queries for reports and analysis and maintain asset health indexes for all in-program asset types.

Develop and maintain all Asset Management Plans (AMPs) for major equipment types, create and maintain equipment performance metrics, facilitate Reliability Team meetings for each asset type, determine equipment replacement priorities for capital replacement programs, and troubleshoot and resolve system issues.

Assist in the revision of maintenance instructions and job plans to improve maintenance processes and data collection.

Maintain equipment PM Basis and administrate the RCM module in Maximo, ensuring alignment of Maximo PMs, maintenance instructions, and Datasplice job plans with RCM and PM basis, while facilitating the PM change process and developing RCM for new asset types.

Conduct periodic asset failure mode reviews in the RCM module to evaluate asset performance, identify adverse trends, and recommend improvements.

Implement quality reviews of CM work orders and maintain Engage metrics work order database to enable effective equipment performance trending.

Administrate the Corrective Action Program (Incident Reporting System) and the Operating Experience (OE) program.

Perform root and apparent cause analysis of equipment failures.

Participate on industry team's meeting for asset management, substation equipment, and operating experience.

Manage R&D projects associated with equipment operation, maintenance, and condition monitoring.

Qualifications Required Education/Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of applicable engineering work experience, operation, or maintenance work experience in utility operations, construction, substations, steam and/or power generation operations or

Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years of applicable engineering work experience, operation, or maintenance work experience in utility operations, construction, substations, steam and/or power generation operations.

Relevant Work Experience

Strong written and verbal communication skills, required.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel on all levels, required.

Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), required.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to oversee projects, required.Supervisory experience of management and union employees, preferred.

Knowledge of Maximo, Datasplice and OSI-PI software platforms, preferred.

Knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), maintenance strategy development, and predictive maintenance technologies (infrared, vibration, oil analysis, acoustics, etc.), preferred.

Knowledge of root and apparent cause analysis, preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Driver's License Required

Other: Institute of Asset Management (IAM) Preferred

Other: Reliability Engineering Certification Preferred

Physical Demands

Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold

Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations

Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems

Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday

Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies

Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses

Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays

Additional Physical Demands

The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Must be able to detect traffic sounds, alarms and backup warning devices when working near traffic, around moving equipment and within substations and buildings.
