Hydro, Inc.
Precision Manual Lathe/Mill Machinist — Pump Components
Hydro, Inc., Cumming, Georgia, United States, 30128
Hydro, Inc. is a global industrial pump engineering company and the world’s largest independent pump rebuilder. Since 1969, our teams have delivered engineering expertise, repair, and support from our headquarters in Chicago to facilities around the world. We’re adding a skilled Manual Machinist to our Cumming, GA operation.
Base pay range $27.00/hr – $36.00/hr
A day in the life You’ll step into a clean, safety-focused shop where complex pump components arrive for custom rebuilds. Your morning might begin on a Vertical Turret Lathe dialing in concentricity on a large impeller, followed by a precision setup on a horizontal or vertical boring mill to bring a bearing housing to spec. In the afternoon, you’ll interpret a drawing, calculate a bolt circle using geometry you know by heart, verify dimensions with inspection tools, and record those measurements for the team. Throughout the day, you’ll collaborate with engineers and fellow machinists to troubleshoot, optimize procedures, and keep our equipment in peak condition.
What you will handle
Set up and manually machine custom components for industrial pumps in a job‑shop environment
Produce and finish impellers, wear rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals to exact specifications
Interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches to determine the best machining plan
Perform precision cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting using manual lathes, Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL), horizontal/vertical boring mills, and ID/OD grinders
Measure critical features and document readings using appropriate inspection equipment
Assess and refine machining procedures to improve efficiency and results
Maintain machine tools and shop equipment in top working order
Follow Hydro shop safety policies and procedures at all times
Work closely with engineers, shop personnel, and other machinists to resolve issues and recommend solutions
What sets you up for success
Strong shop math; ability to apply geometry for angles, radii, and bolt circles
Understanding of feed rates and how adjustments impact quality and throughput
Expertise setting up jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps
Proven ability to machine pump shafts 3–10 ft while holding ±0.0005 using a steady rest
High attention to detail, manual/finger dexterity, coordination, and precision control
Proficiency in manual machining skills
