Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing education as a minimum requirement
Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of South Carolina as a minimum requirement
Three years of recent nursing experience preferably in pediatric, emergency room, and/or public health nursing
Current CPR/First-Aid/AED certification
Ability to work with staff and students to address a variety of health and medical issues
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to lift and transfer students (approximately 50 lbs.)
Reports to Executive Director of Special Services, Coordinator of Student Health Services
General Job Description Under limited supervision, leads and manages the safe delivery of healthcare services in the school setting and ensures that school health procedures adhere to federal, state, and current standards of the Nurse Practice Act.
Essential Job Functions
Follows district guidelines/procedures for school health
Completes Medicaid compliance
Consults with other school nurses and school/district administration on health issues
Attends school nurse meetings
Gathers documentation to support recommendations for the Medical Homebound Program
Keeps informed of developments and innovations in the profession
Looks for conditions which might indicate the presence of communicable diseases; alerts faculty, parents, physicians, and public health authorities when necessary
Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits various records and reports including health screening data, health records, laboratory reports, immunization records, physicians’ statements, accident/ injury reports, student health records, referrals, supply requests, monthly and annual reports, permission forms, training reports, memos, correspondence, etc.
Reports suspected child abuse/sexual abuse/neglect to the Department of Social Services when necessary
Coordinates health services and promotions with community health agencies, including vaccinations.
Maintains confidential health records of students
Ensures medical supplies and equipment in assigned school is available and in proper working order
Complies with all federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and directives
Performs related duties as required
