About the Role The Town of Mooresville is seeking a skilled Sanitation Equipment Operator I to operate large sanitation packer trucks along assigned residential routes for the collection of trash, recyclables, limbs, leaves, and other yard waste. This position serves as a lead worker on assigned routes, helping ensure crew safety, service quality, and efficient daily operations.
The ideal candidate is experienced in operating large vehicles in tight or congested spaces and understands the physical and safety demands of sanitation work. This role involves working in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions and requires attention to safety, teamwork, and customer service.
Drive sanitation packer trucks on prescribed routes to collect curbside trash, recyclables, limbs, leaves, and other yard waste and transport materials to designated disposal areas.
Conduct pre-trip inspections and perform routine preventative maintenance, including cleaning and deodorizing trucks.
Supervise and assist sanitation laborers during collection activities, ensuring safe and efficient loading and unloading.
Provide instruction to crew members on proper refuse collection and disposal methods.
Ensure crew safety and compliance with established procedures throughout assigned routes.
Respond to citizen questions regarding sanitation services and procedures as needed.
Fill in as a driver or crew member on other sanitation routes when required.
Perform related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED and a minimum of six months of experience in sanitation work or equipment operation.
Special Requirement
Possession of a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B required; Class A preferred.
