Street Maintenance Assistant Manager - EXAM

Under general direction, is responsible for assisting in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the activities of street maintenance programs to ensure the public has safe passageway on City streets, alleys, and rights-of-way; performs related duties as required.
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
Supervises employees engaged in street maintenance and cleaning activities, to include conducting performance evaluations, approving/disapproving leave requests and/or initiating disciplinary action;
Inspects work in progress and upon completion for conformance to plans, specifications and instructions;
Determines proper work methods, interprets special and unusual working conditions and resolves operating problems;
Oversees the operations of street maintenance and street cleaning activities at remote locations;
Investigates and responds to complaints from the public concerning street cleaning, snow and ice removal, roadside mowing and the repair and maintenance of streets, street berms or alleys;
Ensures supervisors are complying with safety precautions and the proper utilization of barricades and traffic control devices;
Investigates complaints regarding defects in materials and equipment; inspects tools and equipment and recommends extent of repairs and preventive maintenance needed; assists in procurement of maintenance equipment;
Investigates complaints from the public concerning the work of employees; settles disputes among workers; recommends and initiates corrective and disciplinary actions for subordinate personnel;
Investigates employee relation problems; conducts or participates in disciplinary conferences; attends disciplinary hearings;
Evaluates performance of employees; instructs and trains employees in proper methods of operation;
Prepares reports and maintains files as required;
Prioritizes work orders and provides guidance to supervisors in assigning workers to street maintenance duties;
Oversees the maintenance of work records and the preparation of time sheets.
Completion of the twelfth school grade, and two (2) years' experience supervising, managing or analyzing activities related to street maintenance or other infrastructure operations. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth school grade requirement.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a
NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE , eligible list, and will
replace
the names on the current list. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process.

The examination process will consist of an Experience Evaluation weighted 100% (multiple-choice/forced-choice format).
The exam is expected to be administered in February.
Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
The certification process will be: Fixed Band
