Job Title - RESEARCH ENGINEER III (2) (T229819)

Description Mid-career Embedded Electrical Engineering position for UAB's Engineering and Innovative Technology Development (EITD) group. Develops viable embedded electrical system and component designs based on project requirements and specifications and assist in development, manufacture, maintenance, sustainment, and operational support of payload systems for space applications. Develops and supervises the development of detailed engineering documents and electrical drawings and/or CAD models for use in fabrication and assembly of complex engineering hardware and devices. Reviews and checks engineering drawings produced by others for adherence to technical specifications and requirements. Develops and utilizes SPICE models to supplement design or debugging efforts. Performs benchtop prototyping of component, board, subsystem, and system level designs for iterative testing and integration. Demonstrate effective technical communication to guide fabrication and assembly efforts and work closely with engineers of other disciplines to develop high reliability integrated systems.

Our engineers are experienced in design, development, and commercialization of innovative hardware and software systems for the aeronautic and life sciences industry. As one of the nation's leading developers in cold stowage hardware for use in microgravity and exploration, our expertise covers mechanical, electrical, and software design, fabrication, assembly, test, and sustainment; as well as, systems engineering, safety and verification documentation / closeout, crew training, launch site support, mission operations, and recovery.

Responsibilities

Oversees the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.

Guide and train less experienced engineers.

Performs multiple engineering-related tasks in various assignments within the organization.

Support meetings, teleconferences, and travel as required by projects.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to EITD Electrical Engineering Section Lead.

Has broad knowledge of engineering procedures and assists in the resolution of complex problems.

Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.

Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.

Salary Range:

$77,640 – $126,170

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Mechanical or Materials Engineering preferred. Six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
