Network Systems Administrator 2 The State of Montana Department of Military Affairs Information Technology is seeking a Network Systems Administrator who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, has exceptional multitasking abilities, can work on a series of diverse systems, has experience in managing network and security equipment, and can provide premiere technical support to our customers and end-users. This position will be expected to verify current versions of existing software, hardware, and firmware, perform updates and apply patches, maintain and verify current backups and backup processes, and monitor the network for anomalies or security issues. This position will also assist the IT Systems Support staff with any escalated tickets or technical issues affecting multiple locations. Due to the nature of the duties this position will perform, applicants should expect to be located in or around the Helena, MT area and able to work in the office located at Fort Harrison, MT 60%-100% of the time.

Briefly outline a firewall environment you managed with multiple subnets and routing rules.

Duties
The Network Systems Administrator will be tasked with technical support, systems maintenance, hardware implementation, troubleshooting, system backups, and security patch deployments including:
Assist lower-level roles with system maintenance and general IT support to end-users;
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, network, or system technical issues;
Install or replace network or computer systems hardware or software;
Schedule or monitor systems maintenance activities;
Produce support documentation (for example: a how-to/FAQ document, knowledge base articles, system information and login details, audit logs, etc.);
Maintain systems backup, recovery, and security protocols;
Configure hardware or software to meet system requirements;
Monitor system performance and maintain assigned systems;
Resolve escalated issues from lower-level roles requiring systems modification;
May deploy new application code into test or production environments
May program as needed;
Manage assigned IT systems;
Resolve issues elevated from lower-level roles, which involve system modification;
Evaluate and optimize network or system performance;
May respond directly to escalated customer issues in order of importance as determined by location and business impact;
Responsible for a variety of additional duties; This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, excellent communication skills, organization, and multi-tasking;
Must have the ability to work in, and interact with, a diverse workforce in a professional and effective manner.
Education and Experience
2-year Associate degree in Information Technology or a related field;
2 years of job-related experience supporting network or computer systems technologies;
Other combinations of education, certification, or experience may be substituted.
Knowledge and Skillset
Must be knowledgeable in setting up and maintaining Windows Server 2019+ and Hyper-V;
Must have experience in setting up and maintaining private networks;
Knowledge in using and maintaining firewall appliances preferred but not required.
May require 8 or more hours a day working with a computer;
May require more than a 40-hour workweek and on-call to perform systems upgrades and address issues during off-hours;
May require regular phone use to resolve issues through long-duration calls;
Occasional need to lift, move, and install computer hardware – up to 25 lbs.
Typical Work Environment
Normal office environment, located at Fort Harrison, MT;
Must be able to work physically on-site in the office 60%-100% of the time.
Telework eligible up to 40% based on business need after completion of a probationary period;
May require travel to other users’ work areas to deliver hardware or resolve issues onsite.

Training Assignment : This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules.
