Advanced Vehicle Design Lead Technical (DLT) - GM Defense
General Motors, Milford, Michigan, United States
The Role
The Design Technical Lead (DLT) will provide daily technical direction and assign work to a team of designers. You will lead the development of Math Design Solutions to meet subsystem requirements, create Math models for parts and subsystems, oversee the creation of all Program IAs, and own the population of the IAs into VAS variants that create a digital representation of the team’s current design intent. Additionally, you will mentor the team on product and math-based processes like the content and creation of Engineering Drawings, and the creation of unique drawings and files in support of prototype fabrication. Responsibilities include supporting the Design Group Manager (DGM) with workload balancing and scheduling within the team. This position requires a high level of skill, accuracy, and coordination under general supervision. Additionally, it requires a large amount of understanding of the GM VAS/TKV process and a working understanding of prototype metal fabrication support and processes.
What You'll Do
Guarantee adherence to math design deliverables (Global Design InfoBOOK and Design Standard Work).
Lead and facilitate virtual design reviews, ensuring on-time completion aligned with program timing.
Advise DGM on assignment status, resource capacity, and capability.
Provide technical mentoring for major virtual process development and standard work.
Demonstrated application of design operations and processes (Standard modeling, Clearance Analysis, etc.)
Applies manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and integration knowledge to parts and subsystem designs
Supports lessons learned, updating best practices and learning sessions with program teams
Supports current production change management processes
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
