The Role The Senior Systems Engineer is a highly technical, senior-level role responsible for the
design, implementation, optimization, and support of Mission Community Hospital’s core IT infrastructure . This includes server systems, virtualization platforms, network architecture, storage, security appliances, and high-availability environments that support clinical, administrative, and ancillary systems.
This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, operational ownership, and the ability to work independently in a 24/7 healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
Design, deploy, and maintain
Windows Server environments , including
failover clustering
and high-availability configurations
Administer and support
SQL Server clustering
and related database infrastructure in coordination with application and clinical teams
Manage and optimize
VMware environments , including
vSAN storage
Serve as a senior technical resource for
enterprise networking , including:
Cisco switching and routing
VLAN design and segmentation
Network performance and resiliency
Configure, manage, and troubleshoot
Palo Alto firewalls , including security policies and network segmentation
Support and optimize
Ruckus wireless infrastructure , ensuring reliable coverage for clinical and operational use cases
Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity; proactively identify risks and improvement opportunities
Participate in infrastructure upgrades, system migrations, and disaster recovery planning
Respond to escalated incidents and outages; provide root cause analysis and corrective action planning
Ensure systems align with healthcare security and compliance standards (HIPAA, hospital IT policies)
Maintain accurate system documentation, diagrams, and procedures
Collaborate with clinical systems teams, vendors, and leadership to support hospital operations
Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience in
systems engineering or infrastructure roles , preferably in a hospital or healthcare environment
Strong hands-on experience with:
Windows Server and Windows clustering
VMware vSphere and vSAN
Cisco switching and routing (enterprise-level)
Ruckus wireless solutions
Proven experience supporting
high-availability, mission-critical environments
Advanced troubleshooting skills across servers, storage, networking, and virtualization
Experience working in regulated environments with uptime and security requirements
Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple infrastructure responsibilities
Strong documentation and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in an
acute-care hospital or clinical IT environment
Familiarity with healthcare applications (EHRs, imaging systems, clinical databases)
Experience with disaster recovery planning and testing
Relevant certifications (VMware, Microsoft, Cisco, Palo Alto) are a plus
