What to Expect
The Automation Team Lead provides strategic and technical leadership for all instrumentation, controls, and process automation activities across complex engineering projects and operational initiatives. This role is responsible for setting technical direction, establishing standards, mentoring teams, and ensuring automation solutions are safe, reliable, scalable, and aligned with business objectives. Candidates should expect a management-level role with broad influence across engineering, operations, and project leadership, including accountability for technical quality, resource planning, and long-term system performance.
What You'll Do
Provide technical and functional leadership for instrumentation, controls, and process automation teams
Establish and maintain automation, controls, and instrumentation design standards and best practices
Lead automation scope definition, execution strategies, and technical decision-making across projects
Oversee development and review of control philosophies, P&IDs, I/O lists, network architectures, and logic designs
Coordinate automation activities across engineering, operations, maintenance, and IT/OT stakeholders
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, cybersecurity, and safety requirements
Mentor and develop automation engineers, designers, and specialists
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
10+ years of experience in instrumentation, controls, and process automation
Demonstrated leadership experience managing or leading automation teams
Strong expertise in DCS, PLC, SCADA, and industrial networking architecture
Deep understanding of process control strategies, instrumentation, and field devices
Experience developing and enforcing engineering standards and technical governance
Proven ability to interface with operations, maintenance, and project leadership at a management level
