Reporting to the CFO, our client is looking to hire a Controller in the Fort Mill, SC area.
Base Pay Range $110,000.00/yr - $160,000.00/yr

Job Responsibilities:
Own the full accounting function, including payroll, for a multi-state, service-based business
Lead and develop a team of 5 direct reports
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close with a high standard of accuracy and timeliness
Ensure strong internal controls, documentation, and processes
Serve as the go‑to accounting expert the CFO can trust and rely on
Audits & Compliance
Lead and manage all external audits (experience with multiple audits is essential)
Partner with auditors and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth, efficient audit cycles
ESOP audit exposure is a plus (but not required)
Systems & Process Improvement
Play a major role in upcoming system implementations
Identify opportunities to streamline AP, reporting, and accounting workflows
Help modernize the accounting function to support continued growth
Strategic Partnership
Act as a thought partner to the CFO on financial insights, reporting, and scalability
Support multi‑state operations across 17 client sites in 13 states
Contribute to longer‑term financial strategy with an eye toward future CFO responsibilities
Preferred Experience:
8+ years of progressive accounting experience
Prior Controller or strong Assistant Controller experience strongly preferred
Extensive QuickBooks Online experience is required
Multi‑state and/or service‑based business experience is a plus
ESOP exposure and multi‑state tax familiarity is a plus
Ideal candidate will be detail‑oriented, organized, and highly accountable. Must have the confidence to challenge decision making and protect the business, as well as be a collaborative, approachable leader who earns trust quickly
Hybrid role based in Fort Mill, SC
Team prefers in‑office collaboration (~3–4 days/week), but this is negotiable depending on the candidate
