Job Summary
The Emergency Room Technician at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for specimen collections, patient transport, and assisting with procedures in the Emergency Department. This role requires communication skills, adaptability to changing demands, regulatory compliance, and a positive attitude toward patients and colleagues. Physical capability to lift, push, and assist patients is also required. Patient Care / Job Functions
Facilitates triage and testing of ED patients. Takes vital signs of patients on admission and as directed by RN. Assists with turning, lifting, and positioning patients for exams or procedures. Assists with patient transport to appropriate areas, including patients with IV fluids or antibiotics. Prepares rooms between patients by cleaning, restocking, and setting up the area. Assists patients to restroom, bedside commode, bedpan, urinal, and collects specimens as needed. Assists with patient care such as bathing, incontinent care, and changing clothes. Provides safe and appropriate level of patient transport (emergency and routine). Performs EKG, blood collections, urinary catheterizations, splinting, and other duties per competencies. Regulatory Knowledge
Complies with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements. Secretarial / Clerical / Administrative
Prepares, compiles, and maintains unit records and reports to facilitate quality performance. Enters medical and therapeutic treatment orders via computer to facilitate implementation of patient care activities. Maintains and monitors unit supplies and equipment to assure adequate availability of budgeted resources. Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent (Required). Licenses and Certifications: CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation. Work Experience: 1-3 years; prior experience or training in customer service (Required). Skills: Complete in-house computer training and hospital/ED orientation; maintain unit-specific annual educational requirements; demonstrate knowledge and resources for age-appropriate care; assimilate data and information and report appropriately; prioritize work and perform multiple functions; orient new employees; initiate and follow through with assignments; support co-workers; demonstrate telephone etiquette and effective interpersonal skills. Physical Demands: Standing, walking, sitting, lifting/carrying up to 100 lb, pushing/pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping/kneeling/bending, reaching, grasping; speaking and hearing constantly; repetitive motions; eye/hand/foot coordination.
