EyeSouth Partners is a specialty eye care practice in Metro Atlanta, comprising ophthalmologists and optometrists dedicated to providing patients with the highest quality medical and surgical eye care. Our services range from general eye care to complex surgical care for cataracts, glaucoma, corneal disease, refractive surgeries and oculoplastic and laser aesthetic procedures through OPAL Aesthetics.
The Surgery Coordinator is responsible for surgery coordination and education of services for our patients. Duties include premium services conversion, surgery scheduling, paperwork, and patient coordination of all procedures provided by our doctors. Must be extremely organized, detail-oriented, a strong team player, and an effective communicator.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the premium services conversion rate of our patients.
Provides patients with pre‑op and postoperative counseling.
Schedules appointment dates and times for patients and physicians using a computerized scheduling system and assists patients in being compliant with pre‑op and post‑op regimens.
Interacts with patients, physicians, and other staff, both within the clinic/ASC and at outside facilities, providing accurate, timely and responsive information.
Coordinates processes and routes all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements, providing accurate, thorough, and complete documentation of all information pertinent to patient treatment.
Returns and responds to all calls relating to scheduling.
Ensures any necessary medical clearances are obtained by the patient prior to surgery.
Is knowledgeable regarding co‑management with referring providers and ensures compliance with scheduling of post‑operative visits, communicating with referring providers as needed.
Communicates with assigned physician and surgery center staff to ensure all special supplies are received prior to the surgical date and informs ASC of any add‑on patients, rescheduling appointments as needed.
Helps with ancillary tasks including following up with patients who no‑show or cancel surgical appointments, sending H&P orders and consents to outside hospitals, updating surgical scheduler protocol handbook, continually editing consents and documents as processes change, and conducting training sessions with our physicians.
Possesses an AA/BA/BS degree or a combination of relevant work experience.
Has a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgery Coordinator, preferably for an ophthalmology physician, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Has experience with EMR software, with ophthalmology‑specific software preferred.
Has experience with patient customer service, including obtaining authorizations and referrals.
Is knowledgeable of contracted insurance plans and procedures.
Has the ability to work with Excel, Word, and medical software.
Demonstrates excellent oral/written communication and analytical skills.
Can travel to all our locations as needed.
Is able to multi‑task efficiently and effectively.
Acts calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
Adheres to all policies and procedures, including standards for safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with managers and peers.
Is highly flexible, able to accommodate changing needs of the office, and adheres to HIPAA, COMPLIANCE, OSHA.
Works well under pressure with minimal supervision, exercising initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision‑making to achieve practice objectives.
