Transportation Engineer Associate III/ Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer (61033198)

Job Responsibilities
Assists the Resident Maintenance Engineer (RME) in planning, scheduling, and supervising daily maintenance activities, including coordination of equipment and personnel during inclement weather.
Assumes responsibility of the RME in their absence.
Handles personnel matters such as Employee Performance Management System (EPMS) reviews, position descriptions, and disciplinary actions.
Enforces departmental policy and ensures compliance with safety regulations.
Manages inspection activities (guardrail, catch basin, and culverts) per engineering directives for all state‑maintained roads in Edgefield County.
Investigates requests for service and complaints from the public, officials, or contractors, and makes recommendations for corrective action.
Assists in the processing of claims, including damage claims submitted by the public and claims to be submitted by SCDOT for property damage.
Updates and maintains the Edgefield Roadway Asset Database.
Performs monthly quality control using Discoverer reports.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Physical demands: sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods; occasional travel; bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling; walking for extended periods; working in rough terrain and close proximity to motoring traffic; responding to emergency situations; may require working outside normal business hours.
