About Our Organization Downtown SLO is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit founded in 1975 whose mission is to foster an economically vibrant Downtown. The organization coordinates special events and the weekly Farmers’ Market, supports economic activities, and examines downtown issues such as parking and beautification efforts. The office is located in the heart of downtown on Chorro Street, in a fast‑paced, dynamic, and fun work environment.
Job Description Downtown SLO seeks an enthusiastic and organized Membership & Program Coordinator to serve as the liaison for all members within downtown San Luis Obispo. The Coordinator will collaborate with staff and community organizations, be independently motivated, detail‑oriented, a team player with a creative approach to problem‑solving and a passion for the downtown environment.
Key Duties Membership Communications & Engagement
Welcome new business members through outreach.
Maintain the New Business Welcome Packet, ensuring that relevant information is highlighted.
Update the Downtown SLO website with relevant information for business members.
Coordinate frequent and consistent business member communications, including newsletters, face‑to‑face check‑ins, and printed informational pieces.
Connect business members to Downtown SLO and City of SLO services.
Conduct an annual membership survey and create an accompanying report.
Collaborate with the Operations Coordinator to address requests and concerns in the district and maintain response records.
Recruit voluntary members and manage the voluntary membership program, ensuring valuable benefits.
Participate in vacancy and vibrancy meetings.
Coordinate with the City of SLO on monthly business license compliance.
Coordinate the annual Board of Directors election.
Coordinate and distribute committee meeting agendas.
Attend all committee meetings, staying informed on business sentiment and issues.
Marketing
Collect and share member testimonials and success stories to support marketing content and campaigns.
Work with the Marketing & Communications Manager and Social Media Coordinator to highlight member benefits, events, and special programs.
Partner with the Marketing & Communications Manager and Social Media Coordinator to promote member events, workshops, and networking opportunities.
Program Coordination
Assist in business member outreach for participation in Downtown SLO programs and events.
Assist the Senior Director of Events & Fundraising in contacting potential partners for Downtown SLO programs and events.
Coordinate quarterly Business Mixers & Education Series.
Coordinate semi‑annual Sidewalk Sales.
Data Management
Maintain an up‑to‑date membership database (Salesforce).
Track open and closed businesses to create a vacancy dashboard.
Desired Qualifications
Strong interpersonal communication skills to work with large and diverse groups.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Self‑starter who can work independently.
Detail‑oriented with outstanding organization, communication, time‑management, and customer-service skills.
Prior event and organizational experience and/or a willingness to learn.
Experience with Google Suite, Salesforce, Canva, and Square preferred.
Team player with an affinity for building relationships.
Must be able to work some evenings/weekends.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
Operate a variety of standard office equipment that may require continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
Lift and carry heavy objects weighing 30 pounds or more.
Includes Thursday evenings (six‑hour Farmers’ Market shift).
Includes occasional weekend work and being on‑call for events.
Work in an outdoor environment subject to weather.
Stand/walk for a prolonged period of time.

Compensation & Benefits $20‑$22/hr; Non‑Exempt
Job Type: Full‑time, hourly
