Position Purpose – Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
Assist IT Security Administrators maintain information technology security through testing, auditing, documenting, and evaluating various IT systems by conducting risk assessments, audits, and monitoring network activity. Assist with the planning and execution of security measures to monitor and protect sensitive data and systems from infiltration and cyber‑attacks, defending systems against unauthorized access or modification.
Responsibilities
Assist security admins perform periodic scans and penetration testing of networks to find vulnerabilities and make recommendations for improvement.
Research, recommend, and implement changes to procedures and systems to enhance information systems security.
Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements regarding information access, security, and privacy.
Configure and support security tools such as firewalls, endpoint protection software, patch management systems, etc.
Monitor and follow up on suspicious activity detected by electronic sensors, network, and computer monitoring tools.
Work closely with third‑party managed security service providers to identify and drive enhancements across multiple threat defense solutions and ensuring continuous business operation.
In the event of a security incident, participate in incident response activities including technical and forensic investigation and prepare reports with findings for management.
Work with vendors on providing product updates, bug fixes and managing relations.
Work with network architecture as it relates to company IT security.
Work within Active Directory objects, group policies, and user permissions.
Work within Microsoft Entra/Azure objects and security related components.
Educate the workforce on information security through training and building awareness.
Create and maintain clear and concise security related documentation.
Define, develop, and report security metrics to management.
Assist security admins with various network and security related tasks as needed.
Education, Licences & Certifications
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of one year experience in information technology security.
At least one IT security‑related certification such as Security+, CySa+, ECSS, SSCP, GIAC GSEC.
Qualifications
Hands‑on experience with security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, authentication systems, remote access management, log management, and content filtering.
Technology background related to servers, wired and wireless networks, virtual private networks, and applications as well as network monitoring tools.
Knowledge of Windows Server, virtualization technologies, Cloud infrastructure, DNS, DHCP and Microsoft AD infrastructure, Cisco and Palo Alto security products.
Knowledge of VLANs, SIEM, EPP, EDR, MDR, IDS/IPS, DLP, and vulnerability scanning.
Knowledge of disaster recovery, computer forensic tools, technologies and methods.
NIST or comparable control framework expertise.
Professional verbal and written communications.
Work well on cross‑functional teams to achieve objectives.
Self‑starter, ambitious, and proactive related to customer responsiveness, due dates, and deliverables.
Ability to effectively problem‑solve and develop innovative solutions.
