Job Summary The Wisconsin Reading Center (WRC) is a core retinal image reading laboratory in the University of Wisconsin‑Madison Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Established in 1970 to support NIH‑funded trials of laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy, the WRC now evaluates a wide range of retinal diseases, including AMD, DME, retinal vein occlusion, posterior uveitis, inherited retinal disease, AIDS‑related ocular disease, and cataract. As Project Manager II, you will serve as the key liaison and trusted resource for sponsors, delivering exceptional customer service and efficient project leadership.

Appointment & Work Location

Terminal 12‑month appointment; potential extension or conversion based on funding.

Position is remote, with quarterly on‑site trips to Madison, WI. Employees cover travel expenses unless funding is approved.

Customer Service & Stakeholder Management

Serve as the primary internal point of contact for Flywheel operations.

Maintain excellent customer service and stakeholder satisfaction.

Deliver precise results while remaining flexible in approach.

Ensure internal goals and timelines are consistently met.

Provide proactive troubleshooting and problem‑solving support.

Project Monitoring & Reporting

Evaluate and communicate monthly Flywheel project metrics and performance analyses.

Track Flywheel tickets to ensure timely completion and resolution.

Generate and develop reports for ongoing studies.

Quality Assurance & Collaboration

Partner with the Quality Assurance team to complete all Flywheel validations.

Participate in regular meetings with Flywheel and A‑EYE teams to monitor process efficiency and identify improvements.

Key Job Responsibilities

Exercise supervisory authority over at least 2.0 FTE staff, including training, hiring, performance management, and hours approval.

Set priorities, allocate tasks, and collaborate with project staff to meet targets and milestones.

Manage outside contractors, ensuring integration and satisfactory service standards.

Estimate project costs, resources, and time; monitor activities and negotiate resources; assign tasks to meet targets.

Create a project plan, monitor progress and performance, and identify, resolve, or escalates risks and issues.

Prepare regular status reports for internal and external audiences.

Compensation Starting salary is $87,472 annually; negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of work experience in clinical research, clinical trials, pharmaceuticals, or a CRO.

Extensive knowledge and understanding of clinical project management.

Experience working with Flywheel.

Preferred Qualifications

Project Management Certificate or Clinical Trials Management credential.

Minimum 2 years of project management experience.

Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and time management skills.

Education Bachelor’s Degree required.
