Job Summary Responsible for overall functioning of specific department and facilitates/coordinates continuity of care for all patients served in said department.

Essential Functions

Serve as a clinical resource and role model.

Assist and communicate with other members of the nursing team.

Assume direct patient care responsibility compatible with departmental unit needs.

Exercise hospital administrative decision‑making authority as needed.

Maintain staffing levels, communicate staffing needs, secure staff and forecast staffing needs based on volume.

Supervise, evaluate, interview, discipline and manage all personnel assigned to department.

Develop annual budget and operate efficiently and effectively.

Assure customer needs are met within available resource.

Maintain supplies and equipment needs.

Increase productivity of the department.

Ensure department employees meet all license and education requirements; competencies and training needs are met.

Provide coverage in the department where applicable.

Consistently improve customer satisfaction and service quality.

Knowledge / Skill / Abilities

Detailed knowledge of nursing practice and care delivery in terms of theories and practices to serve as the resource or educator to other practitioners in the nursing field.

Age-Related Competencies Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.

Information Management Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.

Risk Management / Quality Management / Safety Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations.

Minimum Position Qualifications

Education – Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.

Work Experience – Three years in acute care setting within department specific; supervisory experience required.

Training – N/A

License/Certification – Current New Mexico Nurse License; ACLS, PALS, TNCC, where applicable per department required.

Environmental Conditions Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.
