Position Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of an RN or physician. The primary responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living, personal care, emotional support, and performing clinical skills within the scope of a CNA.

Responsibilities

Perform patient care responsibilities based on the standard of care for the patient’s age and current condition.

Assist with patient admissions, discharge, and transfers.

Help patients with bathroom, shower, dressing, and bed care, including linen changes.

Assist with transportation to and from operating rooms and other departments, maintaining patient safety and a clean environment.

Position and move patients, use special equipment, assist with bedpans, commodes, and ambulation.

Prepare patients for meals, serve food, and assist feeds as necessary.

Distribute drinking water and snacks, answer call lights, anticipate patient needs, and make assigned patient rounds.

Transport patients for ordered tests and procedures.

Perform procedures within the CNA’s scope of practice per state law.

Take and record vital signs and intake/output as requested, and report pain or other changes to the supervising RN.

Observe and report changes in mental or physical condition within the scope of practice.

Apply infection control procedures and work in an environment that optimizes patient safety.

Communicate clearly with RNs and medical staff, maintaining a good working relationship.

Document care according to current standards and policies.

Attend in‑service education and training, and learn new procedures and developmental skills.

Provide respectful and dignified care to patients and families.

Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and ability to function in stressful situations.

Operate equipment safely and correctly; maintain a pleasant and professional demeanor with all customers and staff.

Manage service difficulties, recover from challenges, and maintain a calm environment.

Interact with supervisory personnel respectfully and professionally.

Show commitment to service through punctual attendance and proper scheduling of absences.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Completion of a CNA course.

Current CNA certification in the state of Maine and listing on the Maine State Board of Nursing CNA Registry.

Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.

Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal). Additional languages preferred.

Basic computer knowledge.

Engagement with patients and team members using CMH Experience Standards.

Proficiency in facilitating a warm, caring, non‑judgmental environment, active listening, honesty, respect, ownership, teamwork, resilience, and adaptability.

Ability to collaborate with all leadership layers, direct and triage in a fluid operational environment.
