Seeking Teaching Artists : The Creative Living Room (TCLR), established in 2008, recently merged with The Park Avenue Community Center (The PAC Center) to oversee all the children, youth and family programs, including their award-winning summer camp program for kids and youth. Offered in two locations - Media and Swarthmore, these creatively-themed summer camps (5-11 years) and youth programs (11-15 years) are planned and implemented by professional teaching artists and supported by a camp administrator and teen assistants and CITs. Over 350 children and youth enjoy their summer activities with us as we inspire creative curiosity and imagination. We are heading into our 17th summer!

Company Description The Creative Living Room @ The Park Avenue Community Center (Swarthmore, PA) promotes creative expression and curiosity in kids and families. Since 2008, our classes, camps, and workshops aim to inspire artistic expression, bravery to try new things, and strengthen family bonds and community connections through the arts. The Creative Living Room (TCLR) and The Park Avenue Community Center (The PAC Center) merged operations in August 2025 with TCLR leading Children & Youth programs under the organizational umbrella of The PAC Center.

Role Description The Creative Living Room Summer Camp is seeking Teaching Artists for our camp programs in Media & Swarthmore, PA. This is a contract, on-site role where the Teaching Artist will work with children ages 5-12 or youth ages 11-15 to develop art projects and provide hands‑on instruction. Responsibilities include creating lesson plans, providing instruction, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with other instructors to create a cohesive and engaging camp environment.

We are seeking both seasoned teaching professionals as well as recent graduates seeking to expand their teaching experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Education, Teaching, Art Education, Fine/Performing Arts, or related creative field

Experience working with children in an educational or camp setting

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teaching team, camp staff, and families

Experience in a variety of visual arts and performing arts and/ or STEM education

Ability to create engaging and age‑appropriate lesson plans

Understanding of best practices in art education and child development

Background clearances and Mandated Reporter certificate

CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) - a plus!

Must be at least 21 years old

Summer Camp 2026 runs from

June 22 - August 21st.

There are two paid planning meetings in April & May.

This is a 1099 contract position. Compensation is $1000 for per contracted week for full day teaching (~8-4:30); prorated for select half‑day camps (8-12:30pm). Choose 1 or more themed weeks, schedule is based on teaching artist availability and summer schedule is set by February 1. Applications accepted on a rolling basis, earlier we receive your application the more say you may have over the summer schedule.
