Overview This DOH Sub Nurse position will provide school clinic assistance and/or relief to any of the Alachua County Department of Health assigned schools. The nurse is directly supervised by the Alachua County Health Department School Health Coordinator RN Supervisor in coordination with the Alachua County Public Schools Health Services Supervisor and Principal of the school assigned.

Your Specific Responsibilities: The nurse shall be responsible for making decisions that are based upon the individual’s educational preparation, scope of practice and experience in nursing. The role includes professional nursing services by coordinating and providing clinical services/activities in the school clinic(s), supervising the school’s clinic and clinic staff, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, attending staff meetings and workshops, and establishing safe clinic procedures.

Key duties: monitoring student health records, providing nursing evaluation, planning, intervention, management and referral activities for students with acute/chronic health problems, initiating emergency procedures, providing health education, documenting and referring failures, collaborating with school staff on IEPs, 504 and student services, and coordinating health screenings per state mandates.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to learn and use Shots, Word, Excel, Outlook, SBAC Web-based Program, and other relevant software. Proficiency in multiple computer systems such as HMS. Ability to type 30+ words a minute and interpret information on a personal computer.

Physical Requirements: May require lifting up to 50 pounds, assisting students in a wheelchair, and using proper body mechanics. Must have 75% - 100% hearing and eyesight and be able to move across a large school campus.

Qualifications: Minimum: Registered Professional Nurse license (Florida Statutes Chapter 464, Rule 64B9) and certification in American Heart First Aid and CPR. Preferred: Experience working with children.

Where You Will Work: DOH-Alachua 224 SE 224 St, Gainesville FL 32641. Work location depends on the needs of the Alachua County Department of Health assigned schools.
