Summary of Job Duties The Police Officer will: engage with community members to build positive relationships, address community issues, and promote trust and cooperation. Conduct proactive patrols in assigned areas to deter criminal activity and maintain order. Enforce traffic laws and regulations, conduct traffic enforcement, and respond to accidents to ensure road safety. Respond promptly to emergency calls and incidents, ensuring public safety and providing assistance as needed. Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and community organizations to address public safety concerns and implement crime prevention strategies. Maintain accurate records of incidents, arrests, and activities and prepare detailed reports for documentation and analysis. The position requires regular, reliable, and non‑disruptive attendance and the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications
Formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.
United States Citizen.
At least 20 years and 6 months of age (Note: per CLEST, the minimum age is 21).
Other requirements: Criminal background check, sex offender registry check, financial credit check, substance abuse testing, and motor vehicle registry check.
Physical Demands
Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Close visual acuity required for tasks such as analyzing data, transcribing, operating a computer, reading, and visual inspection.
Subject to environmental conditions including extreme cold or heat, wind, humidity, etc.
Noise exposure requiring shouting to be heard above ambient level.
Constant: driving, hearing, manipulating items with fingers (including keyboard), reaching, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, talking, walking.
Frequent: balancing, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing.
Occasional: climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, stooping.
Pre‑employment Screening Requirements The University of Arkansas conducts background checks for applicants, including a criminal background check and a sex offender registry check. Additional checks may include a financial background check, motor vehicle registry (MVR) check, and/or drug screening, as identified in the position listing.
Salary Information Starting rate: $50,400 after academy certification; $56,000 after certification.
