Brief Job Description This position is available for Morning, Evening and Night shifts on multiple homes. It may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, weekends, if on maximum security locations, and for additional duties performed at different facilities. The role supports a team that helps people with intellectual disabilities achieve their goals in a respectful and mission‑aligned environment.

Essential Job Functions

Attend work on a regular basis, following a scheduled shift or rotating schedule, and perform other duties as assigned.

Implement habilitation and rehabilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention, and treatment programs tailored to each individual.

Teach life skills such as feeding, dressing, and personal hygiene.

Participate in development of individual treatment plans.

Observe individuals for health changes and document observations.

Report significant changes in physical condition or behavior and record information appropriately.

Assist with transportation of individuals to scheduled activities and in emergency situations.

Administer first aid and perform CPR as needed.

Attend to healthcare needs under supervision of medical personnel.

Evacuate individuals in the event of a fire, natural disaster, or drill.

Prevent or manage aggressive behavior and administer CPR in emergencies.

Perform direct care and support services to individuals.

Provide training or mentorship to new DSPs and/or volunteer as a shift/team lead.

Participate in disaster response, recovery, or COOP activation as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Ability to speak and read English.

Decision‑making and good judgment in critical incidents.

Quick, calm reaction to emergencies.

Proper body mechanics and lifting techniques.

Knowledge of individual care techniques and treatment/therapy programs.

Provision of first aid, CPR, Ukeru, and safe use of restraint (SUR).

Effective communication and training/mentoring skills.

Teamwork and collaboration.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Valid Texas driver’s license or proof of obtaining one within 90 days after hire. Applicants with an out‑of‑state license must submit an original certified driving record. Certification in CPR, First Aid, Ukeru, and/or SUR is preferred.

Initial Screening Criteria Required

High school diploma or equivalent, or prior employment experience.

Preferred

Six months of work experience.

Experience writing reports.

Experience in behavior programs for persons with intellectual developmental disabilities.

Experience working with people who have mental health/intellectual developmental disabilities.

Additional Information

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

Male applicants 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service.

All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to random drug testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required; overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays may be necessary.
