City of Sunrise – Fire Inspector – EMT
Nature of Work This is a skilled technical and clerical position concerned with inspection, prevention, and investigation components of the Fire‑Rescue Department. Employees in this classification are responsible for inspecting buildings under construction and existing buildings/premises to ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, ordinances, and standards. Work is reviewed by a supervisor through observation and analysis for adherence to established policies and procedures.
Base Salary
Base salary includes 2.5 % First Responder Pay and 5 % EMT Incentive Pay. Shift rate $30.40 hourly, $2,431.98 bi‑weekly, and $63,231.51 annually will commence upon completion of in‑house training. Salary effective as of 10/13/25.
Essential Job Functions
Perform the duties of a Firefighter, plus: Inspect new and existing buildings/premises, fire hydrants, fire protection and suppression systems – including sprinkler, standpipe, mechanical smoke control and all fire‑related life safety systems.
Assist in performance and acceptance tests of all fire protection and life safety equipment, evaluating their operational effectiveness under working conditions.
Assist the Department in providing and presenting Fire Prevention Programs to schools, industries, businesses and the general public.
Attend meetings, when required, to represent the City regarding matters of interest to the Fire‑Rescue Department.
Prepare reports on activities, including recommendations and actions taken.
Subject to after‑hour or early‑morning inspections.
Subject to recall for after‑hour requests as needed by Operations.
Perform related work as required and as directed.
Education
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a G.E.D. equivalency diploma.
Proof of highest level of complete education must be submitted as an attachment with the application.
Special Required Certifications
State of Florida Firefighter Certification
State of Florida Fire Inspector Certification
Broward County Fire Inspector Certification within 6 months of appointment
State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and/or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Certification
Class E driver’s license and completion of a certified EVOC program with an acceptable driving record
Must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license prior to hire
CPR Certification (Healthcare Provider Level 1)
All certifications must be current

Physical Requirements
Moderate physical effort that may involve lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects and materials up to twenty (20) pounds. Position requires computer usage and extended walking, standing, or sitting.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in the field, traveling to perform inspections within the City of Sunrise. Work hours may vary and may include early morning, evenings and weekends.
Sensory
Must have the ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals. Requires oral and written communication skills, adaptability to frequent workload changes, and the ability to adjust priorities quickly.
